MAKE-A-WISH

Amount donated: £35,781

In March 2009 the Richard Burns Foundation made a contribution of £35,781 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, which grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses. Since being established in 1986, Make-A-Wish has granted more than 5,500 wishes.

Each year, some 1000 children will turn to Make-A-Wish to have their special wish granted and with each wish costing on average £5,000 to be granted, the support from the Richard Burns Foundation was invaluable in making a wish come true for at least seven children.

One child to be granted a wish was Dillon, whose condition, neurofibromatosis, meant his nerve tissue grew tumours, which can cause serious damage by compressing nerves, tissues and organs. Make-A-Wish arranged for Dillon to meet his hero, he MotoGP rider Dani Pedrosa, at the British Motorcycle Grand Prix at Donington Park.
