TEENAGE CANCER TRUST

Amount donated: £51,766

In partnership with the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Richard Burns Foundation raised £51,766 for the Teenage Cancer Trust in Southampton. The Chichester-based event was about more than just the donations, however. It was about giving some of the young cancer patients the ride of a lifetime in one of the Richard’s rally cars.

Teenage Cancer Trust spokesperson Helen Haynes said: “Six teenagers are diagnosed with cancer each day, but these young patients don’t stop being teenagers just because they get cancer. Teenage Cancer Trust ensures young cancer patients get the best possible care in hospital and the chance to do all the things other teenagers do.”

And, for one day only, Richard’s co-driver Robert Reid helped some of the youngsters get lucky and realise the dream of their contemporaries as they were strapped in and sent sideways.

Robert added: “It was great to see the youngsters from Teenage Cancer Trust enjoy the Goodwood rally stage in a World Rally Championship car – something most people can only dream about.  The Richard Burns Foundation is delighted to have helped raise a fantastic sum for such a deserving cause. We hope they will be inspired by their experience and that the money raised will help care for and support others in their fight against life-threatening illness."

The donation of £51,766 was the perfect start for the Teenage Cancer Trust Southampton appeal, which will provide new facilities for teenagers with cancer in the region, based at Southampton General Hospital.
