Fans and friends of the 2001 world rally champion Richard Burns, who died from brain cancer five years ago this year, will be given the opportunity to remember the British hero during an event at Prodrive’s headquarters in Banbury, Oxfordshire on Saturday September 25.

The inaugural Remembering Richard event has been jointly organised by Prodrive, which oversaw Richard’s WRC title triumph alongside co-driver Robert Reid, and the Richard Burns Foundation charity, which is hoping to raise vital funds to help those suffering from brain cancer and other neurological disorders.

Among the highlights of the day will be an engine ‘sound-off’ in place of the traditional minute’s silence. It will begin when the Impreza WRC, which carried Burns to world title glory, is fired up. Some 400 owners of the limited edition Richard Burns Impreza RB5 and RB320 road cars will then start their cars’ engines to show their appreciation of the Reading-born driver.

Other attractions during the day will include:

• The Richard Burns car collection, including some of the great cars Burns drove such as his Group N Subaru Legacy, Peugeot 206 WRC and world championship-winning Impreza WRC
• One-off opportunity to get your photograph taken with the entire Richard Burns Collection
• Display of hundreds of RB5 and RB320 Impreza road cars including Richard’s RB5 #1 and Richard’s father Alex Burns’ RB320 #1
• Prodrive Heritage Centre featuring several famous rally and race cars built by Prodrive
• Limited edition Remembering Richard polo shirts and RBF merchandise on sale including limited edition stickers to remember the day
• Opportunity to pre-order the souvenir magazine kindly produced by Total Impreza, the event’s Official Media Partner
• Guest appearances by Richard’s co-driver Robert Reid, Prodrive’s technical head David Lapworth and father Alex Burns plus other guests to be announced
• Simulators and other displays including a the 850bhp Impreza Gobstopper
• Raffle drawn by Alex Burns
• Car parking, refreshments and toilets
• Access to the event, which runs from 1000hrs-1500hrs, is free but donations to the Richard Burns Foundation are warmly appreciated. Prodrive is centrally located in England with easy access from Junction 11 of the M40 motorway.
