Zoe Scott

Richard and Zoe met in early 2001 which is when their relationship began. They travelled the world and the rounds of the WRC together, memorably celebrating the world title just six months after meeting. An amazing moment, Richard had achieved his ultimate goal. But their life-long plans were abruptly halted in November 2003 when Richard was diagnosed with a brain tumour. It was then they took on our biggest challenge yet.

The two years of Richard’s illness were mixed with some highs and some very dark, low moments. Often they talked a lot about the people who were ill like he was, without the support network that he had around him. Together they lost the battle in 2005.

But from Richard’s sad, untimely death RBF was born. Zoe's involvement stems from a desire to help the unfortunate people like Richard to cope with the destruction and devastation of brain cancer.

Richard had access to the best care available. Not everyone who suffers the same life threatening illness can say that. But with the help of RBF Zoe hope's we can change that.

Colin McMaster

Richard was a gifted sportsman, a true gentleman and Colin's best friend. He followed Richard's career through his camera lens and away from the sport of rallying they got to know each other well, not just as friends, but as housemates. Through Richard’s illness Colin learned about the realities of cancer and knew that Richard would want him to help others in difficult circumstances. This is why Colin is a Trustee of the RBF.

Paul Hembery

Paul Hembery was born in Bristol, England, but currently lives in Milan. After being educated in the UK, he has worked for 22 years in the tyre industry, working in various Research and Development divisions and commercial roles. He joined Pirelli in 1992 and has been in charge of motorsport for the last 11 years. Within motorsport he has managed Pirelli’s global motorsport activities in GT, WRC and now Formula Once since 2011. Away from motorsport, he enjoys Italian opera and watching Bristol City play football.

Here are Paul's own words about Richard  “I first knew Richard during the Subaru/Pirelli partnership in the WRC. Whilst we would talk late into the night about developments and ideas, we also managed many a day in the Cotswolds for lunch and putting the world to rights. Of course helping him gain his world championship in 2001 was a highlight, and the legendary all British battle with Colin was a dream to follow so close. Richard was quiet, sometimes you could say timid, but he never forgot anyone, was extremely kind and ever thoughtful. That is a side that many might not have seen, but marked him out as special, not only as a driver but as a person and friend. Which is why being involved with the Richard Burns foundation is a privilege, it helps take forward those wonderful human qualities of Richard to continue to assist others”

Clare Craig

Clare was  a close friend of Richard and met him through mutual friends in 1997, by 1999 she was travelling on every rally with him as his assistant helping with logistics, pr and sponsorship commitments. This work and friendship continued throughout his WRC career. Over the years she watched Richard become the great man and world champion that he was, although it was hard work she looks back with very fond memories. Clare feels honoured to have been given the opportunity to spend his 'wonder years' with him professionally.

Being a Trustee of the Richard Burns Foundation, gives Clare the chance to be close to his memory. It also gives the opportunity to keep his name alive and act on his behalf for the people that suffer like he did with this illness.

Clare now works in the golf management industry and is married with two children.

Liam Clogger

Liam has worked in the motorsport industry since 1992 across touring cars, WRC and for the last decade, in Formula One. However, rallying was his first love and he was fortunate enough to work for the Subaru World Rally Team at the zenith of their achievements, joining Prodrive just after the late Colin McRae's championship success in 1995 and working alongside Richard as the team PR man until 2001. During this time, he formed a close friendship with Richard in both of their formative years. "Being a member of a team, and more importantly, a friend of Richard's as he matured into the greatest talent in the WRC is and will remain one of the highlights of my career," he says.

Today Liam is a Director of Vivacity, working in the motorsport division, which has allowed him to re-kindle his direct engagement with the WRC. Liam has two children and lives in rural Oxfordshire.

David Lapworth

David has been a Trustee of the Richard Burns Foundation since its inception, stemming from his first-hand, rally-by-rally work with Richard in his long-standing role as Prodrive's Technical Director. His work as an industry-leading engineer and Richard's great skill behind the wheel were some of the most influential factors that took the team to the World title in 2001. David's enduring presence as Prodrive's Technical Director continues today as he helps to steer the technical direction of the MINI WRC Tea in the world championship, but his relationship with Richard marked a personally significant period in his life and underscores his long-standing work as a Trustee of the Foundation
